From Another Land
In the winter of 2006, a young Preston Schmidt uprooted himself from his life in the dry plains of western Kansas to search out a world of mountains, wild animals, and steady work in the state of Idaho. Settling in the rolling hills of the Idaho Palouse, he found a job as a foam insulation sprayer. He and his employer would later team up to invent a foam trimmer unlike any yet on the market. Through this invention, they were able to leave the foam spraying behind and go into full-time retail. Preston remained with the company until selling in 2019.
Starting Over
Preston enjoyed a brief time of semi-retirement through most of 2020, but when a friend asked if he would fill in at their CNC shop, he was eager to go. Having worked with CNC mills at his first Kansas job, Preston found this to be similar and enjoyable work. He was not planning to stay longer than a month or two but, in that time, found that he loved this job. Running CNC mills and a lathe and operating welding equipment required an exactness that he thrived in.
CNC Forever
Four years passed while Preston worked at this shop. His enthusiasm for machining grew, and by the autumn of 2024, he had purchased his own first CNC Machine: a SYIL X7. It was compact enough that he could set it up inside his father-in-law’s residential shop nearby.
With the first chips the SYIL cut, Preston’s dreams of running his own CNC shop began to become reality.
